What is your greatest accomplishment, is an interesting question that is asked every now and then.

How would you answer this?

Well, this is a question meant to give the interviewer some insight into you and what you value.

It tells them what you have accomplished but also how high your accomplishments “rank”.

Let me explain this in more detail.

By asking this the interviewer will know one thing, or two if you mention two, about your accomplishments.

If the accomplishments are indeed good or even amazing then you should definitely use these to your advantage.

But what if you feel like you haven’t accomplished great things?

What if you haven’t climbed a great mountain or built a great app that made you billions?

It doesn’t’ matter actually as long as you can use an accomplishment here that shows ambition and that you tried, even if you failed. If you failed bring out the good points i.e. what you learnt from the failure.

Mention accomplishments that were important though and that could be useful once again in the next job you are applying for. By important we mean do not mention for example that you drink 5 pints of beer in 2 minutes as an accomplishment.

It tells quite a bit about you if you think this is your greatest accomplishment in life.

Conclusion: Use examples of actual accomplishments that are noteworthy and perhaps even useful in the new job.

Even a statement like “Raising a beautiful family” can be an accomplishment here and just shows that you have strong soft values. Judge the situation.
