Interesting question this one. How to answer this without making it look like you are applying just everywhere? Or not applying enough?

There is no correct answer we can really give here but let’s look into this.

The main point with this question is for the interviewer to find out what you work interest is and where you would like to work.

It tells them how much you would like to work in the field you are applying to and it tells them obviously to what companies you are applying to, which in turn tells the HR manager who their competition for talent is out there. For them this is perhaps most interesting.

But they also want to find out how you answer this because they want to know how you perceive their company to other companies and why you applied to these chosen companies.

When answering this just explain calmly where you applied and don’t go into too much detail. Just mention that you love this industry and you only applied to companies that you value and respect.

By doing this you are complementing the company while also answering the question.

Conclusion: Answer the question without too much explanation and detail. Don’t compare companies or put them in any kind of order of importance. Smile and be calm.
