It happens every so often that the interviewer will use such a situational question to find out how you would approach a similar situation.

Would you be willing to speak out?

And in what manner would you address the issue?

Let’s have a look at some of the ways you can turn this question to your advantage.

To begin with, we all know what is the right thing to do here. You saw someone engaging in an act that is against both the company and the law. But witnessing such a situation puts you in an uncomfortable position.

Take this opportunity to show the interviewer that you are mature enough to handle such an issue in a manner that is professional and mature.

When asked this question, many people tend to stress that they would approach the colleague straight away or report his or her actions to the police.

However, going on and on about this might not be the best option to opt for.

The hiring manager will want to see that while responding to such a situation, you are also able to stay calm and use the company’s guidelines that exist exactly for cases like this one.

You can suggest that you would report immediately to your supervisor or the human resources department.

As such, this situation can be dealt with in the correct way.

To sum up, use this question to show that you are able to take action in a manner that is responsible and complies with the company’s guidelines. As a result, the interviewer will be much more likely to see you as a trustworthy and loyal candidate as well as a potential asset to their company.
